Rock-tober: Building a Life on Eternal Foundations
How is life going for you at this moment? As the fall leaves turn, do you feel settled, or is your soul in a season of transition? How has your year been so far? Maybe itās been filled with victories and setbacks, moments of joy and seasons of struggle. The truth is, none of us can build a perfect life. But we can build a life with a perfect foundation ā a life grounded in a perfect God who carries us, supports us, and guides us through it all.
So, how do we build a life on eternal things, as the Chicago Mass Choir so powerfully encourages?
It starts with recognizing the truth about who God is.
Do you remember that God is loving toward you, no matter what? Do you deeply believe that God is good, even when life isn't? If your view of God has been shaped by pain, rejection, or fear, it might be time for a relationship makeover ā not with the people around you, but with the God who has always been there.
Let me tell you a story.
My daughter and I were in the school drop-off lane, on time, happy. I was dressed for my workout immediately afterward. It was a perfect morning. And then I noticed something ā she had chocolate on her dress, just a little on the front. As she turned to climb up to the sunroof (donāt judge my parenting), I noticed she had a whole chocolate patch all over her bottom. The culprit? A chocolate spill from our free ice cream indulgence the night before.
Her clothes for the day were ruined, and weād have to go home to change. Perfect day, off track.
But then I remembered... she had a change of clothes in her backpack. Whew! I asked her to quickly swap the dress for the emergency clothes, and we got her dressed just in time to get out of the car at unloading. She was happy with her new outfit, and I promised to wash her favorite pink dress when I got home.
God provided, and I was so relieved. But as I drove off, I remembered more.
I had given her teacher pushback about keeping clothes in the backpack. Why not store them in the classroom? Arenāt the students given cubbies for their things? The teacherās response: "We want the students to have access to the clothes whenever they need them." Guess what? We needed those clothes that morning.
My revelation ā Godās wisdom is beyond me. God is always good. Even in unexpected, frustrating circumstances, Heās there, providing exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. Can you see God in the moments that look like a mess?
